Primitive Christmas Decorations & The Importance Of Their Simplicity
Filed under: Christmas Primitives, Decorating With Primitives, Seasonal Primitives
Primitive Christmas decorations such as homemade popcorn strings and stars, snowflakes and other holiday figures made of construction paper are reminiscent of days gone by and many people were not accustomed to all the commercialism we experience now in the new millennium. Homemade cards, individually made tree decor for other family members, ornaments being baked using a mixture of flour and water for dough, and all the festive but still simple breads and cookies and cakes that were made with pride with recipes that had been handed down for generations.
Homemade and primitive Christmas decorations seem to feel as if they are wrapped in an invisible lining of sentimental air, memories of past holidays & seasons and nostalgia frozen in time. Making simple and fun Christmas decorations is a great family project especially if young children are present. Everyone can work together with simple and basic supplies so thought and creativity become the decorations of this year and get added to last year's and the years prior. They all become a part of the family holiday decor that new memories are added to each year with more and more being created as time goes by.
Simple but fun ideas can include the use of aluminum foil, pop sickle sticks, clay, paper towel tubes, fabric remnants, pieces of ribbon and string, colored construction paper, yarn remnants, buttons and many more simple and everyday items. Taking the commercialism out of Christmas on occasion will bring a new meaning to future holidays to come.
