Notepads are a very useful accessory to have around the house. They serve many functions that include making your life easier. Primitive notepads refer to the use of traditional pen and paper rather than high tech gadgets to take down short notes. Notepads can help you keep on track of your tasks and chores. In the past, a notepad would be placed near the phone to scribble down messages as you chat. With the emergence of cell phones, one can talk anywhere in the home. Therefore, it is important to leave notepads in places you'll use them the most. It may be on the table near your favorite recliner or on the front porch.
Notepads can also be useful in helping to remember groceries and other items you need to pick up at the store on your next visit. Place a magnetic notepad the fridge so that you can immediately write down when you're running low on milk or juice. Decorating with Primitive Samplers
Samplers were first made starting in the 15th century. As there was no way to print designs and patterns directly on fabric, if a needle worker saw a stitch or design they liked, they would sew it onto a small piece of fabric. At the time, fabric was expensive, so samplers would often be filled with patterns and stitches. The oldest surviving sample was stitched by Jane Bostocke. The sampler has her name and the date 1598 stitched into it. Samplers evolved over time and became more organized rather than just a jumble patterns that the embroiderer wanted to remember.
Around the 17th century, sewers began adding borders to samplers and the alphabet. By the 18th century, samplers were made to show skill and knowledge of the form rather than to simply preserve the stitches. The ability to stitch samplers became a social grace and women were taught to sew samplers from a young age.

Primitive samplers feature a variety of stitches, not just the cross stitch often associated with them. The stitches may be slightly imperfect, adding to the rustic feel of the work.
