Primitive Shutters

In our post, Shutters in the Bathroom, we talked about and showed some pictures of how we had added Primitive Shutters to a wall in one of our bathrooms.  We were looking for ideas on how to finish decorating the wall and with some great emails and ideas from you all, we have added the finishing touches.  As you can see in the following pictures, a simple wreath in the middle of the shutters made a great addition and gave the wall a very nice Primitive look along with the shutters.  We also added another towel with black lines and a black star.  It looks great!

Many of us aren’t old enough to remember the days of hanging the rugs out, then beating the fool out of them to get out the dust and dirt!  But who knows, some of us may still use them?  If you still use a Rug Beater to beat rugs, then we would love to hear about it!

In today’s times though, Antique Primitive Rug Beaters are used more for decoration.  And, they make a great decorative piece to add to your Primitive collection. Usually made of wire, these wonderful pieces can be hung on a wall, or placed by a Primitive setting. As always, the possibilities are endless!

Halloween Primitive Decorations are Here!

YES SHUTTERS!  The lady of the house got this idea from a friend of hers and at first I didn’t know about the idea of having Primitive Shutters on the wall in the bathroom.  But, as usual she was right and it looks great!  As you can see, we found some hangers with stars on them and fastened them to the wooden shutters with screws.  “TIP” When you use screws or nails as fasteners, you can use a marker to color it and make it blend in with whatever you are fastening. Next we found a tobacco stick, or as we say in our part of the country, tobacker stick, and placed it on the hangers. 

Then we had a nice place to hang a decorative Towel for use or for show.  We chose a solid black towel.  By the way, if you don’t have a clue as to what a tobacco stick is, email us or ask in a comment and we’ll be glad to explain.

You’ll notice the middle of the shutters seem kind of bare and we, or I should say she, is trying to decide on what to use to decorate between the shutters.  We have many different options and ideas and that’s the most wonderful thing about Primitive Decorations, the possibilities are endless!

So while we are deciding on how to finish off the wall between the shutters, we would love to hear your ideas or suggestions on what to do.  Your ideas and opinions are welcome!

Shutters in the Bathroom?

Monday the 18th, little Kyle came into our world and I could not be more excited!  Everything went great and mom and baby are doing wonderful.  I am so very proud and I have been looking forward to being a “Papa” since I found out my only daughter was pregnant.  I know we have many wonderful times ahead of us!

Allow Me To Brag a Moment!

Even though the cottage wasn’t decorated with Primitives per say, there were some very interesting pieces that caught my eye, one being an antique sewing machine table that was turned into a vanity.  In another post on our blog back in May, You Don’t Have To Live In a Cabin To Decorate With Primitives, we talked about how Primitive Decorations can be used in any type home and in any type setting.  Whether you use one or two pieces, or if you decorate your entire home with Primitives, the choices are always endless.  That’s what makes Primitive Decorations so popular and exciting!

Sewing Machine Sink?

After vacation we came back home and did some more remodeling on our home.  One of the things we did was update one of our bathrooms.  We’re not quite done yet but almost there!  We wanted to share a couple of pictures and some ideas that we used to decorate our bathroom with Primitive Decorations.

One thing we did was replace the shower curtain with a Primitive Shower Curtian.  It was a nice addition and has hand painted areas on it.  Some of you may have purchased one of these from our site.  If you have, we would love to hear about it and see a picture.  You can upload your pictures in the Pictures of Primitive Decorations section of our website.

Secondly, we added a small antique box on the back of the toilet and added some of our favorite Primitive Decorations.  We don’t have a category for the type of box we used, but if you will use the search feature on our website and search for “cheese box” or “wooden box” you will find some great ideas to use for your decorations.

Inside the box we placed a willow tree, a battery powered candle that flickers, a book and we added some moss and greenery.  Above the box we placed a cute little sign.

Very simple and very inexpensive!  And the great thing about it is you have so many different options when using Primitive Decorations to decorate your bathroom.

Newly Remodeled Bathroom with Primitive Decorations

Although these type items are available by browsing the main page on our website or using the search feature, we don’t have categories set up for Antique & Vintage Tools…. YET!

When we decorate with Primitive Decorations, we need to “step outside the box”.  We’ve talked about it before, how decorating your home with Primitive Decorations gives you so many options, and using old, antique tools make another exciting option for decorating with Primitives.

Some of us may have never thought about using tools to decorate.  Saws, hammers, fireplace pokers and sickles, are just a few Antique Vintage Tools that can be used as Primitive Decorations.  These items can be hung on a wall, placed on a shelf, or used just about anywhere inside or outside the home in primitive settings.

So venture out from the normal rugs, stars and all the more common Primitive Decorations.  Think about using Antique Vintage Tools when you decorate!
